I have had both Mac and PC over the years. APC Schneider has been my brand of choice for UPS. I still use one (Back UPS ES500). But with no associated, compatible, software, I have no idea what's going on. Examples: When was the last time the battery took over, or how long was the outage, or a GUI of the current status, or something that allows me to pick when my Mac will automatically shut down (ex. 10% of battery left).
Always make sure you install the latest software updates for all your Apple products. Many software releases have important security updates and may include improvements that help control pop-ups. The safest place to download apps for your Mac is the Mac App Store.
I used Power Chute Personal in the day, but no more. Is there not a software package that is Mac compatible? I must be daft.
My Energy Saver Preference does not look like yours nor does it show anything related to my UPS connection (via USB on the Mac and the data port on the APC UPS ES500.) I have an Early 2008 iMac with OSX 10.11.6 and 3 built-in USB ports. I have done everything imaginable with these ports: isolating them, turning the iMac off and connecting only the UPS via each USB port. Also, when I click on the Apple iconAbout This MacSystem ReportUSB, I see the 3 USB ports but no recognition of the UPS.
I would pull my hair out but there is not much left. I am beginning to think that it is the cable that I am using. It is the one that came with the UPS (USB-A on one end with RJ-45 on the end that is inserted into the UPS data port. In answer to your remark about my USP ports being active (have you tested the USB ports with something else such as an external hard drive): I have all 3 being used by external hard drives and an 4-port external USB hub (power supplied by AC).
I have isolated each port (given that at least 2 of the 3 must be utilized for the keyboard/mouse and the UPS). I have played musical chairs with them.no joy.
I think I will purchase yet another UPS that has a different type of data port, if for no other reason, it will be newer. I hate it when there is no earthly reason why this is not working. I called Apple (rather, they called me).
Talked with a nice fellow named Wade for about 25 minutes, jumping through several hoops. I stumped him. My situation could not be resolved by him. Time for a beer.
